Clara Meta-Anna Kuhlmann, the daughter of Albert and Sophie (Lutjemeyer) Ropers, was born on December 19, 1919 on a farm near Elmwood, Nebraska. She passed away on July 3, 2008 at the Blue Valley Lutheran NursingHome in Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 14 days.
Clara was baptized on January 19, 1920 by Pastor Carl Luecke and confirmed on May 7, 1933 by George Bergstresser both in North Branch and wasa member of North
Branch for 24 years. She attended country school while growing up.
She was united in marriage to Walter Kuhlmann on April 9, 1947 in St. Paul
Lutheran Church, Byron, Nebraska. This union was blessed with twin sons, Ronald
and Donald.
The couple lived on a farm east of Byron, where theyraised their family. In
1964, the family moved to the home place where Walter was born. In 1975, Walter and Clara retired from the farm and moved to Byron. They bothalways enjoyed a large vegetable garden.
Clara made many quilts and blankets for the church and community. She enjoyed sewing for others. She also was a cook at the Corner Café in Byron for a while.
Clara just recently moved to the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter on October 12, 2002; four brothers, Herman, Elmer, Harry and Willie and two sisters,Sophie Ropers
and Letha Cheney.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald and wife Melissa and Donald all of Byron, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Chad Kuhlmann and wife Michelle andLance Kuhlmann
and wife Angela all of Hebron, Nebraska, Jason Kuhlmann and wife Tara of Byron, Nebraska, Kendra Kuhlmann of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jaci Siemsen and husband Clay of rural Belleville, Kansas and Troy Kuhlmann of rural Mankato, Kansas; 10 great- grandchildren; brothers, Albert Ropersof Syracus, Nebraska, Lorens Ropers of Elmwood, Nebraska, and sisters,Hilda Bruss, and Mabel Cheney and husband Dale and brother-in- law, Glenn Cheney all of Bennett, Nebraska, and brother-in-law, Raymond Kuhlmann
of Modesta, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host offriends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM from theSt. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron, Nebraska with Vicar Connie Raess & Pastor Daryl Nelson officiating. Music was congregational hymns, "Amazing Grace" "Faith
Of Our Fathers," and "O Jesus I Have Promised," with Ruby Eggers as organist.
Pallbearers were Chad Kuhlmann, Jason Kuhlmann, Jacqualyn Siemsen, Lance Kuhlmann, Kendra Kuhlmann and Troy Kuhlmann.
