Edward Fred Hinkeldey, son of
Herman and Sophia Honsbruch
Hinkeldey was born on Dec. 13, 1906
on his parents farm southwest of Alta.
He was baptized on Dec. 26,1906 at the
home of his parents. Ed was confirmed
on Mar. 28, 1920 at St. John Lutheran
Church, rural Alta, where he also received
his education.
Ed married Leone Fahr on Aug. 22,
1933 at Galva and to this union a daughter,
JoAnn and a son, Roger were born.
They farmed for many years until 1951
when they moved to Cherokee and he
went to work as a carpenter for the
Osterling Construction Company until
1958, when he returned to farming. Ed
enjoyed many hobbies of fishing, bowling,
and playing dartball in his younger
years and was involved with the senior
citizens center in the later years. Ed
retired in 1983.
He was very active in the Lutheran
Church being an Elder, President of the
LLL and President of the Voters Assembly,
as well as being a strong supporter
of the Lutheran Hour. He was on
the building committee for Trinity
Lutheran of Cherokee and Alta and St.
John's at Hanover. He was a member of
Grace Lutheran Church of Storm Lake.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Leone; his parents; an infant
brother; brothers, Albert, Herman and
Martin and one sister, Anna.
