Obituary:
Herman Henry Hinkeldey, son of Herman J. and Sophia Honsbruch Hinkeldey was born October 6, 1904 in Buena Vista County, Iowa. He was baptized October 9, 1904 by the late Rev. Henry Wehking at the home of his parents. By the rite of confirmation, he became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church rural Alta, Iowa on March 24, 1918. He was united in marriage to Opal Fahr on February 11, 1932 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva, Iowa. To this union was born three sons. The first was stillborn, and Dwaine and Darrel. He farmed in the Alta community all of his life until 1970 when he retired and moved to his present home in Alta. Herman was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he gave of his time and talent in any way that he could be of service to hischurch. He passed away very suddenly at his home on May 12, 1977 at theage of 72 years, 7 months and 6 days. He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, an infant brother and a sister Anni Nielsen. Heis survived by his wife, Opal, two sons Dwaine and his wife Dorothy, Darrel and his wife Bonnie, five grandchildren, Jim, Myron, Anita, Dennis and Deanna, three brothers, Albert and Martin of Alta, Edward of Aurelia, one sister Mrs Eitel (Freida) Mohn of Aurelia. Also other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 P.M. from St. John's Lutheran Church rural Alta with Rev. Joseph Marsh officiating. Pastor used as his text for the sermon "And Enoch Walked With God: And He Was Not; For God Took Him". Genesis 5, 24. Two hymns "What God Ordained Is Always Good" and "I'm But A Stranger Here", wassung by the congregation accompanied at the organ by Coleen Weiland. Attendants were Arlin Hinkeldey, Robert Hinkeldey, James Mohn, Lloyd Boettcher, Burdette Fahr and Duane Fahr. floral tributes were cared for byMr. and Mrs. Carroll Weiland. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery rural Alta under the direction of Jones Funeral Home.
