Birth: Jan. 10, 1798 Ohio, USA Death: Apr. 28, 1885 Roscoe Coshocton County Ohio, USA This obituary reported Saturday,May 2, 1885 in the Coshocton Age newspaper reads: "Mrs. Mary Randles, for 80 years a resident of Jackson township, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Polly Tubbs in Roscoe, Tuesday night of last week, aged 86 years. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S.R. Clark and her remains were interred in the Old Roscoe Cemetery". The above quote, is the entire obituary. My notes* Mary, was the wife of Isaac Randles Sr. They were married on August 18, 1819 in Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio. Mary was the daughter of Sarah (Mansfield) and Nathaniel Chaney and she was the sister of Abraham Randles Sr's wife Elizabeth. The daughter in the obituary notice; Mrs. Mary "Polly" (Seth) Tubbs, was born about 1833.The house she was living in was next door to her Uncle John Randles, on the street, several houses away from the cemetery. The Chaneys are rumored to have been Native American and if they were in Jackson Township in 1805, this would be so, as that's the only population there! Interesting fact: Near that time Coshocton was known as the Delaware Indian Capitol of United States. The Chaney family often traveled back and forth between Harrison County and Coshocton County, as did the Randles & Fivecoat families, On June 9, 2009, Larry Dean, his wife Sheila and myself proceeded to find the tombstone of Mary. Although, I had found the stone and subsequently the obituary many years previous, I could not find it again. With great joy, Larry spotted it. Mary is his gr gr gr grandmother. We both took a picture of the tombstone. It is very weathered and we could not make out the day she was born! The will of Issac Randles, Mary's husband, was probated April 4, 1842 in Coshocton County, Ohio.
