[Jack Tatum's Family Tree PURE.FTW] The family surname has been spelled Tatom, Tatum, Tatem, Tatham, etc. Spotsylvania County, Virginia Land Patent Book 12, page 401, records that on 6 June 1726 John Tatham [sic] patented " 1000 acres in the fork of the Rappa[hannox] River, Begg[inning] by the riverside thence We by the muddy run side" The land was in the part of Spotsylvania County, that was formerly part of King William Co, VA.That John Tatham may have been the father of John and Stephen Tatom [sic] of Spotsylvania County, if he was, his children included those named in the will of his daughter Susannah Fullilove, as shown herein. In 1753, William Tatem [sic] was one of the chainmen on a servey crew in King William Co, VA. [Virginia Historical Magazine, April 1937, XLV No. 2, pp 140 - 141]. According to P. N. Clarke's " Old King William Co, Virginia Homes and Families" the King William Co, Tatums were descended from Nathaniel Tatum who came to Virginia on the merchant ship " George " in 1619.
