His title was Col. John Weatherall. On page 168 she mentions that he joined in the services of the U.S. in Culpeper County, Virginia, in the Fall of 1778 and returned home in 1781 near Christmas. He served in the several battles of Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse, Eutaw and Savannah. He returned home on foot to Culpeper having left his horse, which belonged to the U.S., with proper officers of the Army, having served out his time of enlistment as a private in the Lighthorse or Cavalry. He served under Col. William Washington. His File, No. 11187 is in the Federal Archives in Washington, D.C.
