[edwards.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 2, Ed. 1, Tree #0888, Date of Import: 6 May 2002] from typed Eulogy source unknown: HARRY ALBERT SHIPLEY -son of the late Perry G and Mary E Shipley - was born on a farm at Glenelg, Howard County Maryland, April 1st, 1863. The first thirty-five years of his life were spent on the farm. At the age of Twenty three he married Mary A Holtman of Ellicott City Maryland. Nine children were born to them, six girls and three boys, two died in infancy, and a dayghter Hazel died at the age of seven. A son Charles died in February 1943 at the age of 50. In February 1922, his wife died. He remained a widower the balance of his life. In the year 1897 he was employed by the B and O railroad at Mt Clare, Baltimore. No doubt he had a lifetime job, but in the year1907 he accepted the Third Angel's Message and lost his position on account of the sabbath. After that he worked at carpetering and building until 1934 when he retired and entered the John Dickson Home where he passed awayon May 20 1946, aged 83 years, 1 month, 20 days. Brother Shipley moved to Takoma Park about 36 years ago and was an earnest and faithful Christian member of the Takoma Park church, and helped to build this church 32 years ago. He was a real missionary worker in the church, taking an active part in the work of our Missionary Society in mailing out missionary papers and corresponding with interested parties. He was a regular attendant at the church services, at Sabbath School and at the Wednesday eveningprayer servic, as long as he was able to walk. He was notashamed to bear testimony of his hope and faith in his Lord and Savior whenever th opportunity presented itself. Mrs Hamilton, who has been in charge of the John Dickson Home since it was first founded, gave the following testimony, in behalf of Brother Shipley: "We never had a more exemplary and better occupant in the Dickson Home since it was founded. He was the pet of the Home." That is an excellent testimony to his character. He was always looking after those who were in need, and stood ever ready to give a helping hand. He did many kindacts for others but never let his left hand know wht his right hand was doing. The world today needs more men like brother Shipley. The Church has lost a faithful and devoted church member and the community a valuable citizen. The last time I visited him, less than a week ago, he told me , "Brother Longacre, my work on earthis done. I have kept the faith and finished my course, and I am ready to depart, knowing that the Lord has laid up for me a crown of righteousness. Pray that the Lordmay let me pass in peace and go soon to my last resting place in the cemetery." I wish that all of us might be as sure of Heaven and the Saint'sx reward as was our Dear Brother Shipley. His survivors are one sister, Mrs Mamie Mahoney of Huntington, West Virginia; four daughter: Mrs Lillie Smith, Mrs Helen Dinges, Mrs Margaret Burneston, and Mrs Addie Ford: and a son Elmer. He also leaves eleven grand children and six great grand-children.
