Monte K Kuhr
Monte K Kuhr was born January 23, 1936, in Malta, Montana, and grew up in his beloved Miles City, Montana. He came to the Tacoma area in the 1950s for work. He passed away at home in Puyallup on Sunday, August 23, 2009, after a tough four-year battle with esophageal cancer. He spent his final moments with his beloved wife Hilda and final days with his three beloved children and family members. Monte was a skilled auto mechanic who worked at several Puyallup-Tacoma area dealerships and in his garage at home until he began teaching auto mechanics at L. H. Bates Vocational-Technical Institute (now Bates Technical College) in 1973 until retiring in 1996. Activities Monte enjoyed included traveling around the U.S. in the motorhome, going to Hawaii three times and on an Alaskan cruise, owning well-kept old vehicles, dirtbike riding, playing pool, golfing, fishing, bowling, square dancing, gardening, organizing and fixing things to keep them in tiptop shape and, in recent years, having coffee at Target with his mall walker friends. He enjoyed many happy fishing/camping trips with his father-in-law Walt. He enjoyed going with family on trips to national parks, Miles City, Arkansas and California to see the sights, relatives and friends. His family always looked forward to his homemade fudge at Christmas. Monte will be forever missed. Monte is survived by his mother, Maxine Parks, of Arkansas; his best friend and wife of 26+ years, Hilda Kuhr; his daughter, Lynda (Mike) Spaulding, his sons Mark (of Gig Harbor) and Tyler Kuhr; his four grandchildren Nicole, Eric, Marc and Max Spaulding and great-grandchild Cole Rogers of the Puyallup area; and sister Sandy Kuhr-Jarman of Tacoma; as well as a host of other relatives. Monte's remains will rest at Tahoma National Cemetery as well as at his favorite fishing hole at Lake Roosevelt and favorite places in Miles City. At his request, there will be no service. Instead, a casual reception for him will be held at the Puyallup South Hill Mazatlan Restaurant at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009.
