Funeral Services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Avon for Sylvester Uphoff, 83, who died Tuesday at Assumption Home, Cold Spring. Rev. Blane Wasnie, O.S.B. will officiate. Interment will be in St. Benedict's Parish Cemetery, Avon. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2006 at the Williams Funeral Home, Avon and also after 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the church. St. Benedict's Parish Prayers will be at 6:00 p.m. and the Father Pierz Council #3628 Knights of Columbus, Albany will pray the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Sylvester was born in New Munich to Bernard and Frieda (Klaphake) Uphoff. He married Marcella "Sally" Schwieters on September 11, 1946 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald. He was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church where he was an usher, greeter and Eucharist Minister. He was on the Education Committee from 1974 to 1976 and the Parish Council from 1978 to 1981. He was an Honorary Life Member of Knights of Columbus Council #3628 Albany, a Grand Knight in 1964 and Treasurer for 17 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #622, St. Cloud. He owned and operated the Uphoff Gambles Store in Avon for 32 years and later worked at the Blenker Hardware Store in Albany. Sylvester is survived by his wife, Sally; children: Dale Uphoff of Golden Valley; Gale (Ken) Raiber of St. Joseph; Sandra (Cal) Brastad of Savage; Mark (Annie) Uphoff of Lakeville; Craig (Mary Kay) Uphoff of Prior Lake; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; siblings: Virgil (Shirley) of Greenwald; Bernadette (Jerome) Lemm of New Munich; Regina (Jack) Sundermann of Sauk Centre; Dorine (Clarence) Von Wahlde of Freeport. Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Celestine Uphoff and grandson, Cole Brastad. Memorials are preferred. St. Cloud Times April 12, 2006
