"At the end of WWII William Wagner as the ranking US Army officer was the Skipper of an Army Transport Service Victory class cargo ship "The Lock Knot". Uncle Bill had a "Masters" rating as a merchant seaman. Uncle Bob, Robert B. Meyner served on the same ship as the ranking US Navy officer as the commander of the Navy gun crew".

Ancestors and some descendants of Robert Bäumle, b. 29 May 1849 in Harpolingen, Baden, moved to America in 1882, lived in Paterson NJ, died 12 Mar 1991. Robert Bäumle is a grandfather to the former NJ governor Robert Baumle Meyner.
The Bäumle family temporarily lived in Birsfelden Canton Basel-Land, Switzerland but didn't apply for citizenship. This was certified by the Zivilstandsgericht in Birsfelden, CH. So they remained to be "Bürger", i. e. legal citizens of their home town and region, Harpolingen, Baden, Germany, until they immigrated to the U.S. and got american citizenship.
