Karen Boland schreibt: "My Mother came to England in 1949 on a student working holiday to work on a farm helping with the potato harvest. She met my Father, a farm worker, at this time. They wrote to each other when she returned to Hamburg but my Mother could not bear to be apart from Father any longer and finished with her studies to be a teacher. Her Father was not very pleased but agreed that she could go. So my Mother went to the Job Centre (Arbeitsamt) to look for work in England. She found that England had a shortage of nurses and desperately needed foreign workers willing to train. Many weeks and interviews later she was asked to come to a meeting point. From there to a camp and another wait, then to England by boat, and then to another camp. She did not know which town or city she would be sent to but she hoped it would be somewhere near to where my Father lived. Finally she was told she would be working in Nottingham Womens Hospital, quite far from Swindon but at least not Scotland!! She eventually became a British Subject after her marriage. My Mother's family remained in Hamburg. Her brother Edgar married Lisa Luecke and they had 2 daughters, Helga and Elke. Elke lives in Wedel, Helga lived in Schwarzenbek for many years and now lives in Scharbeutz. And so the Hamburg Dauer Name finished with Uncle Edgar" (eMail 09.10.2011).
