Lester H. Engle, 87, Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at the Melrose
Area Hospital as a result of a stroke.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at St.
Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Todd Schneider officiated with
interment following in the parish cemetery.
Les was born May 17, 1917 in Sauk Centre, to William and Elsie (Foster) Engle.
On Oct. 9, 1945 he married Eleanor Beste at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West
Union. The couple farmed near Osakis, Westport and Albany and moved to Sauk Centre
in 1951. Les was employed by Starry Construction and later by Kraft Foods in
Melrose. He retired in May, 1982. After his retirement he helped his brother,
Jude, at John's Place in Sauk Centre. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic
Church. Les enjoyed farming, telling stories, working with the public and
watching television.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor "Tootie" Engle of Sauk Centre; their children
and spouses, Mick (Susan) Engle, Joe (Bonnie) Engle, Lynn (Janet) Engle, Bonnie
Tiemann, Paul (Arlene) Engle and Bruce (Laurie) Engle, all of Sauk Centre, Polly
(Emil) Tabatt of St. Cloud, Perry Engle of Maplewood, Dan (Kim) Engle of
Little Sauk, Roger (Carol) Engle of West Union; 27 grandchildren; 14 great
grandchildren; brothers, Harold Engle of Winsted, Ted (Shirley) Engle of
Lynnwood, Wash.; sisters, Beulah (Roy) Zierden and Elsie Taylor, all of
Cushing; sisters-in-law, Mert Engle of St. Anthony and Ella Engle of Sauk
Centre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Erwin, Kenneth, Louis,
Floyd, LeRoy, Clifford and Julian "Jude" Engle; and sisters, Margaret Braaten
and Vera Kranz.
