Herbert had been employed as a mixer for the Wonder Bread Company retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Written by one of Hubert's children: Our dad, Hubert, but most people called him Hank, was employed at Wonder Bread Bakery as a mixer. He worked there for 26 yrs and was forced to retire early due to a heart attack. Hank also had a stroke later on which left him partially paralyzed and unable to talk or eat. He had to be fed by G tube. Sadly, Hank succumbed to his second heart attack on June 27 1990 at his home on 711 Rutger St in Utica, NY. His wife Margaret and daughter Lorena found him in the early morning hours of June 27th. It was a very sad day. Hank was previously married(before Margaret) to Violet aka Jerry and they had 3 kids, Irene, Arthur and Paulette. Violet died on Feb 15 2007 of cancer. She was a member of Harts Hill Baptist Church in Whitesboro, NY. Hank was a generous man and a wonderful father. He loved to take his kids, Lorena, Jimmy, John and Bev to Sylvan Beach. They also went on numerous scenic rides across NY State. Hank loved to fish, bake and cook. He always had breakfast out for his kids and used to make pancakes shaped like characters. He loved to bake cakes and his favorite was chocolate. He loved spicy foods and even odd foods at times haha. Hank would often give money to homeless or distraught people that he came across during his long walks and car rides. He loved to see people smile. He was of the Baptist faith but frequented many churches throughout the Utica, NY area. He loved sitting near the window during thunderstorms and loved to sit outside in the nice weather. He was known for making his kids laugh when he used to take a bath and sing "Oh Christmas Tree" then splash the water. He did it so loud so that his kids would hear. It was a family joke. His Daughter Lorena would jokingly and lovingly call him Fatty Daddy because he was a little on the heavy side. He also loved to have his daughter Lorena comb his hair when he got out of work, it would put him to sleep. He also loved someone to tickle his face which also put him to sleep. Hank would often fall asleep sitting up watching TV due to being tired after long hours in the bakery. Hank would always bring home goodies for his wife and kids when out and about on his travels. They often went out for ice cream at various places, corn beef and cabbage at Stanley's restaurant in Utica, Hanna Park in Utica for entertainment and food. Hank was pretty good at automotive care on his own cars, he would change his own oil and work on the engine. Hank taught his kids morals and values. He loved to tell them about historical events even though at the time they didn't seem to listen. Hank was a big history buff. Oh how wonderful it would be now to hear them again, this time we would truly listen. Hank, Margaret and kids lived on Lincoln Ave, Lansing St, 1137 Taylor Ave, and lastly 711 Rugter St all of Utica, NY. Hank's cousins would often visit him yearly and he enjoyed those visits.
