Story from Susan Smith - great granddaughter of Albert and Louisa Smith: I have little hard documentation on Albert but I'm certain that he is my great-grandfather. He moved to Detroit as a young man, probably soon after marrying. He worked as a mechanic and lived near Henry Ford. The family story is that he and Henry Ford experimented with engines and building cars, but Al didn't have the money to join Henry in business. So Henry got rich, while the Smiths stayed poor. LOL! There's a documented connection between Al Smith and Henry Ford, but the rest of the story could be pure fiction. Al and Louisa had two sons, Albert Jr. and Howard, my grandfather. At some point he bought a small farm outside of Detroit and lived there the rest of his life.
