AUBURN - Rena Jean Carbonaro, 84, of Warren Avenue, Auburn, and Orange City, Fla., passed away peacefully, early Easter Sunday morning, April 1, 2018, at Fish Memorial Hospital in Florida surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Sherwood, N.Y., the daughter of the late Henry and Loretta Young and had resided in the Auburn area for most of her life. Rena graduated from Port Byron High School and was a former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Prior to her retirement, Rena had been employed by BOCES for several years as a teacher’s aide in the special education department. She enjoyed in her later years volunteering at the former Mercy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Auburn. She loved spending the winters in Florida with her best friend and husband, Joseph. She also loved the many special times spent with her children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all of them. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Joseph Carbonaro, of Auburn; their children, Lori (Gary Tringali), Joseph (Becky Carbonaro), Thomas (Melissa Carbonaro), and Robert (Tanya Carbonaro); nine grandchildren; five sisters, Jessie Powers Latimer, Nancy McGinn, Marjorie “Margie” Wicker, Reta Sroka, and Shirley Bryant; a brother, William “Bill” Young; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends both here and in Florida. In addition to her parents, Rena was predeceased by a sister, Loretta Anschuetz, and two brothers, Henry “Brub” Young, and Robert “Bob” Young. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at 11 a.m. this Saturday in St. Francis of Assisi Church for Rena’s Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Contributions may be made in Rena’s memory to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 303 Clark St., Auburn, NY 13021.
