Catherine E. Haggerty Oneida Our little angel, Catherine Elaine Haggerty, age 51, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday morning, September 7th, 2012, at her home in Wampsville. Cathy was born on November 28th, 1960, in Oneida, daughter of the late James and Margaret Haggerty. Cathy attended BOCES of New Hartford, Madison Cortland County ARC and Seniors Program of Madison Cortland ARC. Our Cathy was born with Down's Syndrome and lived a very full and rich life. She taught so many the lessons of love, joy, innocence and compassion. Her smile and her laughter were infectious! She would melt hearts when she smiled and told you that she loved you. Cathy loved to draw, write letters, dance and her Michael Jackson! Surviving Cathy are her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Romie Haggerty, Judy and Brian Wallace, John and Connie Haggerty, Jim and Sue Haggerty and Christine Haggerty; her nephews and nieces, Kelly Haggerty, Ryan Haggerty, Tammy Haggerty, Dawn Morton, Dean Haggerty, James H. Haggerty, Jerry Haggerty, Stacey Stiles, Mike Wallace and James Wallace (Nephew, as Cathy would call him); and many great-nephews and nieces. Cathy is also survived by the many friends that she made in her journey through her life, her friends at the Senior Center, her friends at ARC and her second family at the IRA Home, Jeanette, Stephen and Tracy. She also leaves many friends that she had at the IRA Home that she loved so much. The staff showered her with love and affection and showed her a whole new world to explore! Cathy shared a special bond with Danielle and Jennifer whom she dearly loved. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon. Catherine's funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, immediately following calling hours, with burial to follow in Westmoreland Cemetery, Westmoreland, NY. Cathy's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her second family at the IRA Home for the love, the care, the nurturing and the joy that you brought to her life!
