Observer-Dispatch Obituaries, Saturday, January 29, 2005 Kathleen (Kay) E. Owens of New Hartford Kathleen E. Owens, 92, of New Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Kay was born in Utica on November 11, 1912, a daughter of the late George A. and Mary Helen (Ella) (Falk) Seubert. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and the Utica School of Commerce. On May 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert P. Owens. Mr. Owens passed away on October 13, 1962. She was employed as an executive secretary for 13 years with the Partlow Corporation. She was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. Kay was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Nothing meant more to her than to be able to do things for her family. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Leo (Gary) Waite of Whitesboro; a daughter, Joan Backman and her fiance, Thomas Smoulcey Sr. of New Hartford. She is also survived by her beloved granddaughter, Bonnie A. Backman; and cherished great-grandson, Dylan Backman-Gerardo of Utica. Also surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Agnes Hellenbrand of Cross Plains, WI, and Betty and Bill Quinn of New Hartford; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Delores Seubert of Utica; her sisters-in-law, Dolores Seubert of New Hartford, and Isobel Seubert of PA. Kay was predeceased by four brothers, George, Raymond, Robert and Joseph Seubert; and three sisters, Helen Seubert, Claire Ehlinger, and Mary Wuest. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Jerry Sloan and his staff, and to Dr. Sultana Razia and her staff for the wonderful care given to Kay during her illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Friedel, Williams, Coriale & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jonn the Evangelist Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Please omit floral offerings. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider contributions to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
