Beruf 1900=Holz- Kohle und Bau Material Händler 01 September 1857Death of A. J. Sieh, Sutherland's only centenarian,on Saturday morning at Sioux Valley hospital at Cherokee, brought to aclose the life of one of the town's earliest residents as well as oneof its first businessmen. Born in Germany in 1857, Mr. Sieh came toAmerica in 1881, spending three years in Chicago before coming on toSutherland to join two of his brothers here. He worked with them inthe lumber yard and elevator, which they owned, for several years,later purchasing the business from them, and then continuing tooperate it for 34 years. On September 1 of this year, Mr. Sieh celebrated his 100th birthday,and many relatives and friends were with him to observe the occasion. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Ella M. Jones of Williamsburg,his son Elmer J. of Grass Valley, Calif., three grandchildren, fivegreat grandchildren, and other relatives. His wife preceded him indeath in 1945. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at theMethodist church with the Rev. Warren A. Bintz in charge, directed bythe Baumgarten Funeral Home. Hymns "Rock of Ages" and "In The Garden" were sung by Mrs. SilasSteele and Mrs. Bernard Watterson, accompanied by Jean Jordan. Pallbearers were Roy Hughes, W. D. Engelke, Ed Lage, A. H. Schultz,Franz Sieh and William Pahl. Mrs. Roy Hughes and Mrs. Ed Lage took care of the flowers. Intermentwas in Waterman cemetery. Sutherland Courier 14 Nov 1957
