Gustave Christian Krause was born on the homestead of his father Christian Gustave and mother, Matilda Hannemann Krause on Nov. 16, 1915. This was to be his home for the next 55 years.
He attended Echodale school until the age of 15 in 1930, attaining his grade 9. He was always interested in world history and spent many happy hours reading and furthuring his knowledge in countless fields.
He was a quiet man but could become passionate on his personal views and beliefs. He had a constant and fairthful relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His family attended church and he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church Hilda AB. HIs faith was lived daily.
He and his brother Reinhold farmed and ranched together and had a good working and family relationship. Hewas also close to his brother-in-law Fred Bauer, the husband of his sister Irene. He and his youngest sister Freda Krause Moore had a special and very loving relationship.
He and Melita were married in December of 1940. His parents moved to Medicine Hat in the spring of 1941 and from then on he farmed the homestead.
He and Melita moved to Medicine Hat in the fall of 1970 and the farm was given over to his daughter Dorothy and her husband Laverne Retelbach. Gust remained active at the farm for many years, travelling out to assist with anything that needed to be done. It was after moving to Medicine Hat that he fell in love with the sport of golf. He would golf 18 holes a day every week day and made some good friends on the course, Ed Goodfellow,to name a few. He also became a regular at the Crescent Heights Pool room owned by Bill Lesko. He could be found there most summer afternoons, and mornings and afternoons in the winter. He also enjoyed Tiger hockey games and had season tickets from 1971 to 2000. He enjoyed fishing and travelling in their 5th wheeler. They took many trips to BC and to Alaska in their 5th wheeler as well as to North Dakota to visit cousins there. Family and genealogy were always important to him. He could remember relationships and would gladly recite the genealogy of anyonehe knew. He and his brother Reinhold continued to correspond with family in Europe and a highliaght of his life was a trip to Germany in . He worked with his niece Laura Turnbull translating family letters written to his parents when they first arrived in Canada in 1914. These are priceless heirlooms and I cherish them and am so appreciative of the time and effort spent to make themavailable to all our grandparents' descendents.
He and my husband Mike enjoyed a special relationship, each appreciating qualities they valued in each other. He also had a special relationshipwith all of his grandchildren being benevolent, kind and always interested in their lives and their thoughts on life.

My father and I did not always have the good relationship we enjoyed in the last few years of his life mainly because I did not appreciate the good person he was. I ever regret that I did not cultivate this relationship as I should have in all the yearswe had together We both "missed out" ~
