Catharine Margaret was born to Johann Herman (Herman) and Anna Drieling on January 15, 1868 in Germany, and died in 1962. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Hude, Germany, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's church in the community north of Hooper, Dodge Co., Nebraska.

 

She married Diedrich Windhusen on Mar 31, 1885, in Hooper, Dodge, NE. They had eight children: Gesine Mathilde, Anna Theodora, George Martin, Katherine Helmine, Anna Elizabeth, Henry Theodore, John Harold, and Caroline Louise.

After wedding day they farmed at Pender, Nebr. Then they moved to Medical Lake, Wash.

NOTE: Although most information fits including the total list of passengers (Herm Drieling, Metta Drieling, Heinri, Baby, and Friedr Haar) the ages are incorrect (exceptfor F. Haar). Additionally, the auswanderer site has then coming over to New York and listed on a list of passengers. The family history has then coming to Baltimore. Despite checking multiple sites,unable to find any more information except the above (on Ancestry.com) which even though it prints name as Drilling the picture of the page actually shows Drieling.

CATHERINE WINDHUSEN CLAIMED BY DEATH

 

        Services were held Saturday, Jan. 20, for Mrs. Catherine Windhusen.

        Mrs. Windhusen, born Catherine Margaret Drieling in North Germany on Jan. 15, 1868, emigrated to this country with her parents at the age of three, locating in Nebraska. She was married to Diedrich Windhusen, at the age of 17, residing at that time on the Nebraska Indian reservation.

        With three children they migrated west in 1892 by way of California and Oregon to Medical Lake. Here Mr. Windhusen set up a business, called the Medical Lake Salts Plant. The water of Medical Lake was transformed into crystals, and doctors from Europesent here for the mineral. It also was used here for medicinal purposes.

        Mrs. Windhusen became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church here and was an ardent member until her death Wednesday in a Spokane hospital, after residing in Medical Lake 70 of her 94 years.

        Mrs. Windhusen is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Gezina Preston at the home, Mrs. Theodora Campbell of Balboa Heights, Panama Canal Zone, and Katherine Windhusen and Mrs. Ann Ryan, both of San Francisco; two sons, John of Wenatchee and Henry of Livermore, Calif.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister in Nebraska.
