George William Grecich, 76, of Friendship Ridge, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 29, 2010.

He passed away surrounded by his loving family at Heritage Valley Beaver, after a long illness.

George was born on July 7, 1933, in Fallston. He was the son of the late Grga (Gregory) Grecich and Dragica (Caroline Hrvoj Grecich) Bogovich, who preceded him in death, along with his aunt and uncle Janko (John) and Zlata (Goldie Hrvoj) Novosel, and his stepfather Franjo (Frank) Bogovich. After graduating from New Brighton Area High School in 1951, George served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked at Westinghouse in Vanport until his retirement in 1985. He was proud of his Croatian heritage.

He was an avid fisherman and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was a member of the New Brighton American Legion, Eagles and Croatian Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patsy (Scassa) Grecich; two sons, Daryl Grecich, of New York City and Gary Grecich, of New Brighton; two daughters, Cheryl Freeman and her husband Joe Freeman, of New Brighton, and Carrie Ann Grecich, of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Anna, Ashley, Cameron and Courtney Freeman, Brandi Redfern and her husband Bill Redfern, and Joey Freeman; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Lay, who never failed to put a smile on his face; three greatgrandsons, Tyler McQuiston, Cory and Joey Freeman; two sisters, Barbara Shaban, of Vanport, and Josephine Marchwinski and her husband Daniel Marchwinski, of Beaver Falls; one aunt, Pava (Hrvoj) Haramija, of Croatia; many cousins, nieces and nephews, in both the United States and Croatia, and his granddaughter Anna's dog and his favorite pet, Daisy.

As were his wishes, there will be no viewing.

Friends will be received at a mass at Holy Family Church, 521 Seventh Avenue, New Brighton PA 15066, on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed in memory of George to the Alzheimer's Association.

George's family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of 2 West and his therapists at Friendship Ridge, Dr. Palone, the staff at Heritage Valley, and to all who were involved in his care.
