Delwin Earl Staib 1928-2015 Delwin Earl Staib, 86, died at home on January 12, after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's chorea.

Born in Bethel CT on July 31, 1928, to Harold G. and Evelyn E. (Frede) Staib, he was one of five children. Mr. Staib graduated from Bethel High School in 1946. Always athletic, he was on both the varsity basketball team and the pole jump team for the high school.

He initially worked at the Danbury Stetson hat factory, but eventually took a position with the Barden Corporation in Danbury CT. He trained at Western Connecticut State College in manufacturing engineering, and for over 30 years at the Barden Corporation worked his way up to chief manufacturing engineer in their carbide division. He went on to own his own business, North American Carbide Corporation, a franchise out of Denver CO, for over a decade before retiring in the early 1990s. He was active throughout his professional life in the Society of Carbide and Tool Engineers, assuming the role of General Chairman of their 1969 National Technical Conference.

Throughout his life he continued his involvement with sports; he was an avid skier and on the ski patrol at Stratton Mountain Resort in southern VT; he was a member of the Danbury Golf League, earning three holes-in-one for a title; and a successful wild game hunter and fly fisherman. In the 1980s he was appointed Treasurer for the Town of Bridgewater CT by the Board of Selectmen and served a term before moving to the greater Washington DC area in 1989.

He and his wife have lived in Leesburg VA since 1993.

Preceding him in death are a son, Paul Delwin Staib, a sister, Evelyn (Staib) Bailey and a brother, Harold G. Staib, Jr. He is survived by his second wife of 35 years, Mary Lyn Bourque, a son from his first marriage, D. Cary Staib of New Milford CT, a sister, Betty (Staib) Hallock of FL and a brother, Donald A. Staib of Wardsboro VT.

Viewing will be Saturday January 17 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 701 West Main St, Purcellville VA at 12 noon, with a Service of Resurrection at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Union Cemetery at 2:30 PM followed by a reception at the family home in Leesburg from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 701 West Main St, Purcellville VA. Please leave condolences at www.colonialfuneralhome.com.
