Age 87, of Castle Shannon, entered Heaven’s gates at Friendship Village of South Hills on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. Joan was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 8, 1930, a daughter of the late Anthony Gerthoffer and Druscilla Baldauf. A consummate mother and homemaker, Joan enjoyed card club and bowling; additionally, she was a lifetime member of the Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and St. Anne Church. For many years, she worked as a secretary at the United States Postal Service. She was a fan of sports and enjoyed attending and watching the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard, whom she married on August 25, 1951 and with whom she enjoyed life for 36 years. Joan is survived by and blessed with her 10 children and their spouses: Datta K. Khalsa, Richard A. (Susan) Schram, Ronald F. (Kristen) Schram, Randal W. (Karen) Schram, Diane L. (Robert) Gregor, Terry M. (Nancy) Schram, Timmy A. Schram, Tammy A. (Mark) Belback, Kevin S. (Kellie) Schram, and Kim S. (Keith) Wingertsahn; her 19 joyous grandchildren; her brother, Robert Gerthoffer; her sister, Donna J. Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS, 724-941-3211. The family will greet friends at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating Her Life will be held in St. Anne Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Interment in Queen of Heaven Cemetery will follow Mass.
