Ross Roper


   Services for Ross M. Roper, 66, of Melba Route 1, who died  Sunday, Oct. 14, at a Boise hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel of Nampa.


    Bishop Alfred G. Zeyer of the Melba Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will officiate.  Burial will be in the Melba Cemetery with military rites by the Divan-Sloneker Post No. 126, American Legion, of Melba.


    Mr. Roper, a retired Amalgamated Sugar Company employee, was born Oct. 7, 1918, at Weston, Idaho, a son of Suel and Grace Murdock Roper.  He moved with his parents to Nam-pa as ayoung child and was reared and educated here, graduating from Nampa High School in 1937.


    He married Doris Randall in 1939 at Caldwell.  He served in the 116th Cavalry Division of the Idaho National Guard prior to World War II and served in the South Pacific during the war.


    He married Rena M. Coelho on Aug. 9, 1969, at Elko, Nev.  Mr. Roper farmed throughout the Treasure Valley area and later was employed at the Amalgamated Sugar Company's Nampa plant, retiring in 1981.  He was president of the American Federation of Grain Miller's Local No. 284 in 1980-81.


    He was a member of Nampa Lodge No. 1389, BPOE, of the Divan-Sloneker Post No. 126, American Legion, and had been a volunteer fireman with the Deer Flats Volunteer Fire Department.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.


    He is survived by his wife of Melba; two sons, Richard Roper and Ben Roper, both of Nampa; four daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Peggy) Thiessen of Boise, Linda Roper of Nampa, Mrs. Leon (MaryJane) Horrock of Craig, Colo., and Mrs. Frank (Betty) Kaufman of Ontario, Ore.; two stepsons, Larry Coelho of Boise and Dennis Coelho of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Terry Nancy) Fairchild ofNampa; two sisters, Lurayne Pierce of Salt Lake City, Utah and Catherine Williams of Belle Glade, Fla.; one half-brother, Bensen Roper of Grace, Idaho; one half-sister, Myrtle Murdock of Preston; 13 grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


    Memorials may be made to the Elks Rehabilitation Center, Boise, to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, Boise, or flowers may he sent.


    Friends may call at Flahiff Funeral Chapel of Nampa until 9 tonight, Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and until time of services on Thursday.
