Some think Allie and John were twins but that can't be since one was born in No rth Carolina and the other in Georgia. Adoniram's home and saw mill site hav e not been pin-pointed but apparently it was in that part of Surrey Co. that be came Wilkes . In 1784, he acquired additional acreage totaling 600 acres . Records of 1782 and 1786 indicated that Adoniram owned and operated a water- powered grist mill. records connect Adoniram as chain carrier for one of David 's land grants. Adoniram apparently left Wilkes Co., NC, soon after a civil su it between him and Joseph Hughes in 1779. the outcome in unrecorded. Adoniram went to Augusta, Richard Co., Georgia and then to Sparta, Handcock Co., GA to build iron works according to the Allen Robertson Interviews. Adoniram and his family were certified as residents of Handcock in the 1805 Land Lottery of GA in which he was awarded two "draws". This award was based on being a "f ree", white make, married with a wife and a legitimate child (children under 21 years of age), one year resident of Georgia and a U.S. citizen. He drew one b land card and one prize for 490 acres in Burke Co. He failed to pay the requir ed fee and thus forfeited the grant. this is the last record of Adoniram in Ge orgia. We think Adoniram might have left his family with his father, David, Sr ., who had moved to Rutherford Co., NC. Family legend has these two brothers, Adoniram and Old Job coming to Clay Co., KY through the Cumberland Gap. At one time Kentucky was thought of as the "Promised Land." But with Indians to figh t and wild rivers to cross, it was a very hard trip. One caravan in 1781 trave led three weeks over Boone's Road from Moccasin Gap to Cumberland Gap. In the e nd, they had to give up wagons for uncertain horseback rides. In another carav an, three year old William Trimble became a distinguished soldier in the War of 1812. ...and Allen, the cuddling baby, the future governor of Ohio. Back the n there was not a riding switch cut crom a tree. the woods (forest) was so thic k you couldn't lead a horse through them. "Old Job" Allen is said to have bough t Road Run (800 acres) for a gun from head to mouth. Families come by wagon tr aians. Some got to ride in wagons (farm wagons) while others drove the stock, like horses, cows, sheep, hogs, geese, and turkeys...and settled on Road Run. J ob built a log cabin right at the forks of Road Run and his children built and settled down around him. When he built his log cabin, he built it out of poles and mud and the chimney was built of of sticks and mud. They had to lay board s on top of the chimney at night. He built a wolf pen in th eyard and covered it with brush and leaves so the wolves would fall in. the Baker family came ri ght along with the Allens. that is why the Bakers and the Allens all married e ach other.
