Emil Runge Sr. and Minnie Wilde Runge
At the age of 3 months, Emil Runge Sr. boarded an old box car with his parents and their few belongings and came to the United States settleing in Watertown, Wisconsin for a short time before later moving to St. Ansgar, Iowa.
In St. Ansgar, Iowa, Emil met and married Minnie Wilde. They lived on a farm 4 miles East of Grofton, where Emil worked on a mill. They had 7 children (Herman, Emil Jr., William, Leonard, Elizabeth, Anna and Henry (Max).
In 1902, the moved to Foster County, North Dakota and lived there until 1907 and then moved to Slope County and lived with their daughter Mrs. Edd Baumann until their deaths. Minnie passed away on May 23, 1933 from an illness due to her advanced age and Emil Sr. passed away on May 28, 1944, also from old age.
Emil Sr. enjoyed good health up until the last six weeks of his life. He spent nine days in the Bismarch Hospital and then returned home where he died nine days later.
His funeral was May 31, 1944 and Reverand Schultz officiated. The Pallbearers were Alvin Baumann, Ed Redtzke, Art Wagner, Charlie Redling, Ed Farber adn Frank Korth.
Relatives attending were Mrs. Minnie Runge and Mrs. Olga McCormick of McHenry, North Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Runge of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, Mrs. Anna Rosel and daughters, and Mrs. Wilmer Erdman of St. Ansgar, Iowa.
