"...The settlement [Minisink patent] first made was located opposite thelower end of the island (which gave name to the patent referred to), uponthe higher portio of Minisink flats, just at the foot o f the ridge on thesouth running parallel with the river. This settlement took the name ofMinisink. A small grist-mill was erected upon the streem which heredischarges its waters into th Bena Kill, bet ween the residences of DanielD. Everitt and Jacob Westbrook, Esq., the former residence between thetownship of Montague and the latter in that of Sandyston, as this streamhere forms the boundary lin e betweenthese townships for a short distancefrom the river. Johannes Westbrook settled upon one side of this smallstream of water, and Daniel Westfall (said to have been his son-in-law)upon the oppos ite bank, where Mr. Everitt now resides. Others settledabove, and still others below, the first settlers all placing theirdwelling near the old Esopus or Mine Road. The place until a generationor tw o back had its country store, tavern, and blacksmith-shop, and wasthe centre of considerable commercial enterprise.

"Daniel Westfall has been already mentioned as a companion of theWestbrook brothers in their advent to the Minisink, having located on thepresent farm of Daniel D. Everitt..." "The Everitt family wa s earlyrepresented by Jacob Everitt, who came to the township in 1755. He was ofGerman descent, a skillful physician, and participated actively in theearly struggle for independence. At the close of t he Revolutionary was hesettled upon the farm now occupied by Daniel D. Everitt, and followed hisprofession until the close of his life, having died in 1802. He had eightchildren, --John, a blacksmith , Christian, Jacob, Godfrey, Abram, Isaac,Marshall, and George. Isaac located a mile from the Brick House, wherehis death occurred. His son, Allen, and grandson, Daniel D. , whooccupies the homestead , still remain in Montague..." "The Davis familywere among the first settlers in the township, having come as early as1740. Daniel Davis, the progenitor of the family, married JessicaWestbrook, by who m he had two children, Elizabeth and Mary. The lattermarried Isaac Everitt, and is the mother of Allen Everitt, abovementioned.

"The earliest mill erected in the Minisink was built by Daniel Westfall,on the site of the D. D. Everitt property. It was probably erected soonafter the advent of that early settler, who came with th e Westbrookfamily to the Minisink. It was a very simple structure, and the flour wasbolted by hand. Though primitive in construction, it answered well thedemands of that early day, and was in use fo r many years, - - probablyuntil after the Revolution."

Diese Datenbank erhebt keinen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit oder Richtigkeit und sie wird immer wieder aktualisiert. Für Anregungen, Berichtigungen und Ergänzungen bin ich sehr dankbar! Bemerkungen: Berufsbezeichnungen habe ich vielfach abgekürzt, um die Eingabe und Abfrage zu erleichtern. Sollte es zu den Abkürzungen fragen geben, einfach nur nachfragen. Datumsangaben, die mit "etwa" oder "ca." vermerkt sind, beziehen sich in den meisten Fällen auf errechnete Daten oder Taufen (falls kein Geburtsdatum vorhanden sein sollte).
