Message Board Post:
Asa was the son of George Reid II, and Jane Gaston. We have looked for any kind of document that would serve as proof of this. But, as George Reid did not have an estate probated, and Asa did not ha ve a family Bible to survive the years, we know of no primary documentary proof that he is one and the same as the Asa Reid born to George Reid and Jane Gaston. However, fortunately, we do have the Bi ble record of Henry Reid which gives his birth date. A very important secondary proof that Asa is the son of George and Jane exists in the written memorandum of Asa's own niece, Lucinda Oregon Hamilt on McPhearson. She was the daughter of Asa's sister, Margaret. This memorandum was dictated to her son, Lewis D. McPherson in December, 1908, and later confirmed in affidavits by other Reid descenda nts. In this memorandum, Lucinda gave a list of the siblings of her mother and stated that Asa and the others were the children of George Reid and Jane Gaston. She missed his birth year s!
lightly stating that he was born in 1801. (with a ? after the date) She was correct in her statement also, that he went to Arkansas, though she thought it was near Hot Springs. Too, it must be mor e than coincidental that virtually every book published on the Reid, Gaston or Simonton families mention that Asa, son of George Reid and Jane Gaston "went to Arkansas". Additionally, we have been ab le to place every other Reid by the name of Asa with their correct families."
