John Schritter, 78, longtime resident of Burlington, died Thursday evening at his home. Funeral services were March 9, 1987 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Churchin Burlington with the Reverends Mary Whato and Michael Greenwalt officiating. Interment was at Kanorado Cemetery, Kanorado, with Hendricks Mortuary in charge.
     Casket bearers were Paul Schritter, Steven Kramer, Raymond Schritter, Allan Schritter, Gary Schritter, Terry Schritter, William Schritter, Stanley Kramer, Richard Schritter, Nathan Kramer and David Schritter.
     John Schritter was born on Aug. 21, 1908, at Neu Elf, Bessarabia, Russia, the second child of Ernest and Paulina Reichenberger Schritter. The family arrived in America on March 10, 1910,they were processed at the Immigration Quarters located at Ellis Island.
    John became a citizen of the United States ofAmerica on April 18, 1917 and received his Certificate of Citizenship on Nov. 2, 1964.
    After living in North Dakota, Idaho and Kansas he settled in eastern Colorado, farming for many years north of Bethune. Upon retirement, due to poor health, he located in Burlington.
    In 1969 he and Avis Bader were married, making their home in Burlington.
    He had community spirit working with the Farm Bureau and helped organize the Soil Conservation District in this area, as well as the new telephone line for the Settlement Community.He was on the R.E.A. board from the time the idea started and all the farms were energized. He also was one of the pioneers of irrigation farming in Kit Carson County.
    He wasa good and faithful church member, helping with many projects in Immanuel and St. Paul's Lutheran churches.
    John and Avis were very active members of the Russian German Club for many years, researching his German heritage.
    He was a loving and caring father, spending many hours entertaining his children  and grandchildren with history and stories, telling them in German and English.
    John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Rudolf, and one grandson, Robert Lee Schritter. He leaves his wife, two sons, Clarence (Lena), Alfred (Jean) and daughter Mildred (Max) Kramer, (1 grandsons, three granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren. One brother Robert (Alberta) and seven sisters, Christina (Ray) Carr, Martha (Adam) Schultz, Emma (Lawrence) Eike, Regina (Jake) Krien, Elizabeth (August) Isenhagen, Helen (Dave) Schauer and Pauline (George) Wall. Also one sister-in-law, Christine Schritter and many nieces and nephews.
