National Archives - War of 1812 Bounty Land Application

State of Ohio, County of Preble On this 22nd day of January AD 1851 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the county and state aforesaid, John Loutzenhiser who is aged 58 years, a resident of New Westville, Preble County in the State of Ohio who being duly sworn according to law declaresthat he is the identical John Loutzenhiser who was a private soldier in the company commanded by Captain Robert Mann in the 135th Regiment in the 1st Brigade of the 16th Division of Pennsylvania Militia commanded by Col. Andrew Christy, in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812, that he was drafted at Salem Mercer County, Penna. on or about the 2nd day of Jan. 1814 for an indefinite term as the emergency of the case might be, and that he continued in actual service in said war until on or about the 12th day of February following AD 1814 making aterm of 42 days and was honorably discharged at Erie, Pennsylvania which said discharge is last, he makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the actgranting bounty land to certified officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the U. S. passed September 28th 1850. John Loutzenhiser

 

Bounty lands were again awarded in 1855, John was still living in Preble County, Ohio, aged 65. Men from Mercer County, Penna. were called out several times during the war whenever British forces threatened Erie, or invasion from Canada.
