1. Stephen and his wife, Elizabeth Embree, were first cousins---Stephen's
mother, Elizabeth Burris, and Elizabeth's mother, Mildred Burris, were
sisters.
2. Stephen and Elizabeth Brockman were listed as being members of the Old
Friendship Baptist Church located on Constant's Fork of Strode's Creek
on the main road leading from Winchester, KY to Strode's Station, KY in
Clark county, Kentucky. The membership lists include the (Kathryn
Owen's book) years 1812-1825.
On page 58 of the above mentioned book there is a mention of the Old
Friendship Church Graveyard as being located in the NW part of the
Winchester Cemetery.
3. The land records searched in Clark county, KY pertaining to Stephen
Brockman range from 1808 through 1829.

4. In 1808, Stephen Brockman purchased 50 acres from Thomas Embree for 120
pounds of Kentucky money. This land was sold on 19 Mar 1810 to Robert
Elkins for $500. Stephen Brockman probably lived on this land for two
years.
5. 6 May 1810, Stephen Brockman purchased 200 acres in Christian co., KY
for $500 from Joshua Gates (Christian co., KY Deed Bk C:41), Pamunkey
Neigh. p. 213.
26 Jun 1812, Green co., KY Deed Book 6:327-328: Stephen Brockman of
Christian co., KY to Thomas Pitman of Mercer co., KY, on 5 Aug 1783,
John Brockman, father of Stephen Brockman, executed to Wm. Pitman of
Lincoln co., KY a bond which he bound himself under a penalty to make
to said Pitman a good title to one half of a tract of 3,796 acres which
is located by Pitman for Brockman. Thomas Pitman is not holding the
same. John Brockman appointed his son, Stephen, to be his attorney-
in-fact in KY, bearing the date of 20 Dec 1802. Stephen now conveys
2,375 acres to Pitman which is one-half of the north-west side of
Brush creek. Signed, Stephen Brockman, 20 Jun 1812.
6. 12 Feb 1813, Stephen and Elizabeth Brockman sold land on the waters of
the west fork of the Red River to Joshua Brockman for $1200 (Christian
co., KY; Deed Bk D:131), Pamunkey Neigh. p. 224.
7. 11 Mar 1815 he purchased 115 acres on Four Mile Creek from James Whitham
for $850. He probably lived here for 2 1/2 years because this property
was sold to John Owens on 16 Oct 1817 for $1200.
8. On 15 Oct 1817, Stephen Brockman must have lived on land he purchased
from William M. Booker, 185 acres for $2775. On 30 Apr 1821 he had a
mortgage on this land for $1000 but this was paid off before he sold the
land in 1827. The 185 acre tract was "on the waters of Two Mile Creek"
and it was surrounded by land owned by Thomas Burris, Dillard Collins,
the heirs of Henry Hucles (?) and John Owens.
9. At different times Stephen Brockman either purchased land or inherited
it through his wife and sold the land for a profit. On 29 Apr 1816 he
bought 100 acres from Daniel Spur for $500 and then sold it on 29 Aug
1816 to David Hampton for $700.
In 1824 he inherited land from Milded Embree and sold it to John W.
Rawlings of Howard co., MO for $200.
10. The 185 acre piece of land Stephen Brockman had purchased in 1817 was
not sold for 10 1/2 years; this is where he must have lived for this
period of time. On 25 Apr 1827 he sold this land for $2450 to Colly B.
Quisenberry of Fayette co., KY. Seven months later he was in Randolph
co., MO because on 29 Dec 1827 he appointed David Hanson of Clark co.,
as his power of attorney in KY.
11. 20 Nov 1832 Randolph county, MO probate record (Book A:86):
Now at this day comes here into court Charles McLean Administrator
of the estate of Stephen Brockman deceased and presents his petition
and application to this court for sale of the slaves belonging to
the estate of said deceased to wit: one negro man named Jerry and
one negro woman named Sarah and one girl named Susann and after mature
deliberation & consideration by the court thereupon had It appears to
the court that there is no widow of the said decd entitled to dower of
the said slaves and that two of the said slaves are somewhat advanced
in years and that a portion of the proceeds of the said sale may be
wanted for the payment of the debts, and lastly that the said Stephen
Brockman died leaving eleven heirs entitled to distribution and that
division of the slaves cannot be had in kind among the heirs and it
also appears to the court that the sale of the slaves aforesaid would be
advantageous to the estate & heirs of the said Stephen Brockman
deceased. It is therefore considered ordered adjudged and decreed by
the court that the said Slaves to wit: Jerry Sarah & Susann be
exposed to public sale to the highest bidder in the town of Huntsville
the first day of January next on a credit of twelve months the
purchaser giving bond with approved security and it is further ordered
that Charles McLean adminstrator of aforesaid execute and carry into
full effect this order and that he give at least three weeks notice of
the time place and terms of this sale by 8 handbills put up at the most
public places in this county and that he make to the purchasers good
and sufficient conveyances or Bills of sale of said slaves conveying to
the purchasers all the right title interest or claim which the said
estate or the heirs of the deceased may have in and to the said slaves
above described and it is further ordered that the said administrators
report to the court at the next term thereafter to be holden have he
executed this order.
131 Ordered that the administrator of the estate of Stephen Brockman
deceased leave the plantation belonging to the estate at private sale
for one year and that he cause such repairs and improvements to be made
as he shall deem to be to the interest of the estate.
490 Now at this day comes Charles McLean administrator of the Estate of
Stehpen Brockman deceased in obedience to the citation issued against
him at the last term of this court, and it appears to this court that
distribution of the estate cannot now be made for the reason that the
heirs have not accounted for advances made to them in the lifetime of
the said Stephen Brockman dec'd It is therefore ordered by the Court
that a citation issue directed to the Sheriff of Ray County requiring
him to summon the following named heirs of said deceased Joseph E.
Brockman John Emberson and Willis Brockman To the County of Howard for
Jacob E. Brockman to Randolph County for Willis Brockman Stephen
Brockman C. Jackson Thos Kimbrough guardian for Emily M. Brockman
Gabrila Brockman & Attilla Brockman heirs of the said Stephen Brockman
dec'd requiring them to appear before this Court at the next term
thereof and then and there show to the Court the amount severally
advanced to them by the said Stephen Brockman dec'd in his life time
and it is further ordered that the said Charles McLean administrator
as aforesaid make a final settlement of his accounts at the next term
of this Court.
12. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF STEPHEN BROCKMAN

In the name of God Amen I Stephen Brockman
of the County of Clarke and the State of Kentucky
being in Sound mind and memmory Calling
to mind the mortality of the body and though
Certainty of Death when it Shall pleas God
to Call me hince do make and ordain this
to be my last will and testement Revoking
and disallowing all other will or wills
Testement or Testements and this only to be
taken for my Last Will and Testement &
none other and now for the Settling of my
Temporal Estate and Such Goods and Chattles
as it has pleased God to bles me with I do
give and Dispose of the Same in the follo
=ing manner, first I will my body to the dust
and my Sole to Godalmighty who gave it
and Secondly I will to my beloved wife for and
during her natural life - or Widowhood for her
and my Executor hereafter to use and Dispose of
as is hereafter provided in this my Will, all
my Estate both real and personal ------------

13. Stephen Brockman died between Feb 1831 and Nov 1832.
14. The Brockman Scrapbook by William Everett Brockman, page 244, shows the
relationship between John Brockman (father) and Stephen Brockman (son):
Original Court Records of Green co., KY, Deed Book 6:316; John Brockman
appoints his son, Stephen Brockman, as his attorney to manage and
transact business in Kentucky for himself and his wife.
15. The marriage date for Stephen Brockman is given as 31 May 1803 in Marr.
Rec. Clark co., KY.
16. In WFT 42:288 he is identified to as Stephen H. Brockman; this is
incorrect; his name was Stephen Brockman and one of his sons was known
as Stephen H. Brockman
