William BROCKMAN

William C. BROCKMAN, 75, long active in Republican politics in Will county and an assistant Joliet township supervisor for the past 20 years, died Tuesday afternoon at his home, 301 Sherman St. Mr. BROCKMAN suffered a stroke about two years ago. A life-long resident of Will County, he was born in Green Garden township Aug 13, 1878 a son of the late Elizabeth and Henry BROCKMAN. At the age of four years, he moved to Joliet with his family and continued to make his home here since. At the age of 28 years, he was named a Joliet township tax collector and was one of the youngest men to be elected to that post. For almost 28 years, he operated a hotel in the Joliet loop area, retiring many years ago. Altho he retired from business then, he continued to remain active in politics until the time of his illness. At one time he sought the GOP nomination for sheriff. He was a committeeman in his precinct for many years. He served on a citizens committee that waged a campaign for free text books in the Joliet public grade school system about 35 years ago. For the past 20 years he was an assistant Joliet township supervisor and served on the Will County Board of supervisors and also the Will County Forest Preserve Board. His term would have expired in 1955. Currently he was on the judiciary committee and the committee to settle with the coroner. Prior to his illness, he served as chairman of such committees as judiciary, insurance and on the Forest Preserve Board was head of the committee on Forestry and Improvement. Mr. BROCKMAN was serving his third year as a member of the board of trustees of Silver Cross hospital. He was a county board representative. A charter member of St. John's English Lutheran church, he served on the church board and was active in church affairs. On Oct 1, 1902, he married the former Clara THURM in Joliet. They were wed by the Rev. August SCHUESSLER. She survives. Besides his widow, Mr. Brockman is survided by two daughters: Marguerite now Mrs. John SCARTH of Mokena; and Hazel, now Mrs. Wilbur RAPSON of Joliet; and four sons: Elmer, Clarence, and Harold, all of Joliet; and Maynard of New Lenox; and eight grandchildren. The body is at the Blood and Grant Funeral home where friends may call after 7 p. m. this evening. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday. At noon on Friday the body is to be moved to St. John's English Lutheran church where it will lie in state until 2 p. m. when last rites will be conducted by the Rev. William J. BOLDT. Burial will be in Elmhurst cemetary.
