Fred H. Brockman, 91, Salina, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005.

Mr. Brockman was born May 20, 1914, in Elmwood, Neb. He was employed by public schools in Nebraska and Kansas as an instructor and administrator. He began as an instructor at Fullerton, Neb., and later worked in Beaver City, Neb., Central City, Neb., and Beatrice, Neb. Later, at Atchison and Salina, he was director of maintenance and operation for the public school systems. Both positions in Kansas included direction, planning and supervision of 23 additions and new school buildings.

He was the salutatorian of his graduating class at Elmwood (Neb.) High School. He continued his education at Peru State Teacher?s College where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then went to the Stout Institute of Technology in Mennomine, Wis., where he received his Bachelor of Science and master?s degrees in supervision and administration of industrial and vocational education.

He was a member of University United Methodist Church, where he received a certificate of appreciation for faithful service. He served as scoutmaster of Troop 92 in Atchison and Troop 5 in Salina. He was awarded certificates of appreciation for service to the Girl and Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Salina Kiwanis Club, where he served on many committees, the board and as president. He received special plaques of appreciation and recognition for being chairman of the fair booth, making celebration gifts and making contributions to the Kansas Kiwanis Foundation.

His outstanding service as director of maintenance and operation for USD 305 was recognized with awards from the maintenance and operation department employees, the athletic department, the Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities and Kansas Association of Business School Officials.

During his retirement, he did significant volunteer service for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Kansas Wesleyan University and the Girl Scouts of America. He voluntarily led the remodeling of University United Methodist Church and gave direction to school construction in Salina.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Louise, in 1965.

Survivors include his wife, Wilmadean D., of the home; two sons, Karry of Suwanee, Ga., and Jorgen of Auburn; a daughter, Neva Bailey of River Forest, Ill.; a stepson, Daniels Heinze of Phillipsburg; two stepdaughters, Peggy Stull of Norton and Sonja Schultz of Circleville, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at University United Methodist Church, Salina, the Rev. David Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
