Biorgaphy written by Sophia Ann Krull

The following story is re-written from a copy of an original story written by Sophia Ann Krull. This is the story of the Krull family arriving in Hudson Bay, June 2, 1850, mid morning. They had been on their voyage for 100-108 days, and they had encountered some pretty bad stormsand had been driven off their course. They had damage to their sailsand in times of dead calm they didn't make much progress. A lot of passengers got sick and died. Some survived and made the long hard voyageand came to a new land unknown to them. My grandparents, Christopher, and his wife, Louise Krull and a 5 year old boy made this their home.Grandma was expecting their second child. They put her (grandma) in an Indian wigwam and he (the baby) was born June 2, 1850 and they namedhim John Krull. There around the Hudson Bay area the Indio Valprazo and they found worans were good to them. After a rest they travelled along the eastern coast tk and got a covered wagon drawn by an ox team and came West and settled in St. Joseph, MO, which then was mostly Indians and French Trappers when the territory opened for settlement. Grandad Christopher heard of some railroad selling for 5 cents per acre. He bought 100-140 acres, cut down trees and built a log cabin for theirfamily. I can remember it very well and I also have a picture of it and some of my aunts were born in the log cabin. When Grandpa and Grandma moved to a larger one, my father and mother lived in the log cabinand my older sisters were born in the original home of Krull settlers. The year Grandpa died, 1885, sister Louise was born. They had lived in the log cabin a couple years when their first child, a boy, was still born in 1884. My father is the oldest child. He is buried in the Frederick Christopher Krull Evangelic German Cemetery. Fredrick Christopher Krull is my father and the oldest of their family. I was the youngest, Sophia Ann Krull, girl of the family. My Husband is Frank Guyot. This is another story written and copied from and original story by Sophia Krull. My grandparents, Christopher Fredrich Krull and Louise Krull (maiden name Orr) were born in Heidenberg, Germany. They had 1 child about 5 years old. He was born in Heidenberg and they named him Fredrick Chistopher Krull. Grandma was expecting their second child. How many were on board isn't to accurate on their voyage in the sail boat. They encountered bad storms and also dead calm. They just drifted at times. Their sails were badly damaged and the passengers got sick. Somedied and were wrapped in blankets and dropped over board. They reallyweren't too sure just where they were. They were 100-8 day crossing. They drifted into the Hudson Bay and a ship was going out ...they asked for water and were told they were in fresh waster. They came ashoreand they put grandma in a wigwam and their child was born there and itwas a boy. They called him John Krull. So I had an Uncle that was born in an Indian wigwam. They stayed for awhile in the Hudson Bay area then they travelled along the east coast and worked and got a covered wagon and oxen and traveled west and north and Joe Rubidce asked them to come and make it their home and they did and there was only a fur trading place and mostly Indians lived there and trappers came to tradeand buy their supplies. They came mostly from the northern. Grandfather had work and that made him feel secure and then the Gold Rush was onand he had work at different jobs and he had an assignment at Sioux City, IA. They lived there for some time. While they were there there was an Indian girl that had a child by a white man. The Indians killedhim and the girl died and the Indian's chief gave the little boy to mygrandfather and they raised him with their family as one of their own. They named him Jonnie Fry and he was the first to ride the start ofthe mail to Sacramento, CA. A boy by Name of Ritcherson had been chosen, but he became sick and they switched the first rider to be Jonnie Fry. It was a very cold damp day April the 3 that year and the horse got very restless. My grandfather patted the horse to calm it and assureJonnie he could make the ride. He was about 16 years old and not toolarge. After the overland mail was discontinuing, he joined the Unionarmy and got killed somewhere in the south of the state of Missouri. But he had killed 5 before he was himself killed in a land battle by bush wackers.
