Emma hated her name Gertrude Irene, so she says, but this writer is not convinced that she really did.Every time she told you her name, shewould laugh and say, "I don't know why Mom ma would name me that?"Sheloved her Mom ma and Pappa very much, and always could tell you funny-happy storys about them and her family.Em was one of seven children, second to being the youngest.She married Carl Anderson Crum, a happy-knowledgeable person, who had traveled most of the United States beforehe married her.She learned much from Carl and learn to take life in ahappy stride.They had a good life together and if Em ever had a problem with Carl it was perhaps he like to have a couple drinks more then he should.They married in Lincoln, Ne. on December 12, 1924, had two children, Donald Lee Crum and Marjorie Nadine Crum Jackson.In the 30's they moved from Nebraska to California and made their home for some years in Oakland, Ca., upon retirement they lived for a time near Sebastopol, Ca., and later at Watsonville, Ca.Carl pass-away in May 1989.Emmacontinued to live in their Watsonville home.She suffered strokes, buthad fast recovers and was able to stay in her home until early 1996,at which time she moved to a care center in La Selva Beach, California.She died there on May 22, 1996.Her daughter Marge related to her cousin Lyle Krull that her mother was very alert right to the time of death, she just dropped off to sleep.Early in the day she kept telling Marge that she just knew they had some place to go, it was after Emhad passed on that Marge realized that her mother knew that she had a placeto go and was waiting to go, go she did.A personal note from Lyle Krull, nephew of Emma Crum, she once related to Lyle that shedid not believe in the hereafter and on that point they agreed.But shortly before passing, she related to her daughter that if their was a hereafter, shehoped she would meet her family that had passed on before her. If ever a women with common sense existed, we would have to go some to beatthis lady, she was the most down to earth person to live, as was her mother.She was the East, West, North and South.
