Notizen zu dieser Person
Aus dem Nachruf in der Lokalzeitung 20 Dezember 1922: With the passing of Fred W. Zornig, whose death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Wiese just across the line in Tama County last Friday, Benton County and the Keystone community lost one of the real pioneers and a man who had won the respect of a wide circle of acquaintances throughout the South slope. For the past two years Mr. Zornig's health had been gradually failing and the end was not unexpected. For some time he had been making his home with the daughter where he died. Fred W. Zornig was born in Holstein, Germany, 22 November 1841 and died 15 December aged 81 years and 23 days. He came to America in 1864, coming at once to Benton county where he remained a continuous resident for nearly 60 years. The same year he was married in Scott County to Margaretha Meinert who preceded him in death 31 January 1914. The family settled at once on a farm a short distance southwest of the present town of Keystone and the farm yet remains in the ownership of John Zornig. Thirteen children had been born to Mr. and Mrs. Zornig, seven of whom, two boys and five girls died some time ago. Those surviving are Anna Wiese, Hattie Jammer and John of Keystone. Emma Weise and Fred Jr. at Elberon and Louise Finck of Davenport. He is also survived by one Schwester Sopie Dressen of Paulina. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grand children. Funeral services were held from the Peter Wiese home Sunday afternoon and were in charge of Rev. James of Elberon. Internment was made in the Keystone Cemetery. Among those from out of town who were here for the funeral were Raymond Kuehl and Louise Finck of Davenport, Alfred Zornig of Jasper, Minnesota and Mr. and Mrs. H. Hessenenius of Newhall. The 1920 census for Benton County, Iowa shows Friedrich Zornig, living in the household of Claus and Emma Theissen. [Zornig Family.FTW]
