Joan(my mother) told me that he was a prisoner of war in Japan but I don't know whether that is true or not. I know he brought some Japanese vases back with him after the war so he was certainly there. They were married in Stamperland (a suburb of Glasgow in 1945) and moved about quite a bit finally ending up in West Bridgeford in Nottingham. He worked as a carpet salesman and I think eventually went to work for a family friend who owned a carpet manufacturing/sales company, again I am not too sure on the facts as I was only tiny. Mum always said that he ideally wanted to run a pub but she didn't want to because he liked to drink and felt that he would drink the profits away. I was only 4 when he left but I can remember going and staying with them before they moved and I also remember a small white poodle called nosey. I remember because he was allowed to sleep on my bed when I stayed and my Mum didn't like that. I also remember him running off once when Dad dropped me back home and he got out of the car and Dad had to go running after him. Funny the things you remember. After that there was nothing, I don't know whether he was told to stay away or just decided to stay away. I am sure in the letter I have that it said he was working in an hotel or a pub in Brighton and I believe they were living in it too. The letter does have some very personal things in so I would rather not send a copy if that's ok. \par \par I am not sure how they met, but it must have been in Nottingham, I was only a small child (4) when Mum and Dad split and she never used to talk about it, I think because she was so hurt. That is probably why if ever I asked I was told he was dead. She used to say she was a widow rather than a divorcee in case people said anything. \par \par \par Divorced Jan 1967 before marriage to Miriam. \par \par At date of death employed as Hotel barman living at 14 Montpelier Road, Brighton}
