Highland News Leader, Monday 4 Oct 2004: Duane L. Bellm, 72, ofHighland died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital,Highland. The funeral service was Friday at Evangelical United Church of Christ'' with the Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Drewer, senior pastor, officiating.Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Spengel-BoulangerFuneral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Bellm was born Aug. 11, 1932, in Highland to the late Raymond E.and Leona E. (Brave) Bellm. On May 17, 1958, at St. Paul CatholicChurch he married Dorothy L. "Dot' Koehler, and she died May, 1, 1994. Mr. Bellm grew up in Highland, playing baseball and graduating fromHighland High School in 1950. He served with the US. Army from 1952 to1954, worked at Alton Packaging in Highland, attended National BarberCollege in Springfield and graduated in 1960. He owned and operated abarber shop there for about 10 years. Mr. and Mrs. Bellm returned toHighland in 1968 where Mr. Bellm continued to operate a barber shop.He and his wife also operated Bellm News Service for about : sevenyears, delivering the St. Louis papers. He then worked for CharlesTodd Uniform Company, retiring in 1994. In his retirement he workedpart time for Wal-Mart. He enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling and ridingroller coasters and other amusement park rides with his grandchildren.He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, HighlandSportsmen's Club, Rod and Reel Club in Springfield and a 45-yearmember of Highland Masonic Lodge #583 AY and A.M. He is survived by four daughters, Mary Frances (James) Allen ofDawson, Ill., Sandra K. Bellm of Highland, Dottijean Bellm ofSpringfield and Carla A. (Dean) Haukap of Dawson, Ill.; a brother,Harold R. (Jean) Bellm of Highland; four grandchildren, Patrick TL.Haukap, Jacob D. and Joseph T. Allen, and Kyla M. Haukap, all ofDawson; and a great-aunt, Christine Bellm of St. Louis, Mo. Memorials maybe made to the American Cancer Society or to the family.
