Highland News Leader, Monday 20 Dec 2004: Evelyn M. Schleper, 77, ofHighland died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital,Highland. Visitation is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. today at Spengel-Boulanger FuneralHome in Highland. A funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. today at St. PaulCatholic Church with Father David L. Peters presiding. Burial will bein St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Schleper was born Jan. 7, 1927, in Edwardsville to Julius andElla R. (Holzinger) Begeman. On June 18, 1946, at St. Paul CatholicChurch she married Alphonse "Al" B. Schleper and he died Jan. 9, 1990. Mrs. Schleper grew up in Edwardsville. Her father died when she wasvery young. After her mother remarried and at the age of 5 years old,she and her mother moved to Highland. She attended Buckeye School andSt. Paul Catholic School. She worked at the Hug plant in Highland.Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to Trenton, Albersand then Highland where they farmed the Bargetzi farm until it sold in1965, which caused them to move into the city of Highland. She enjoyedbingo and playing with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. PaulCatholic Church and Daughters of Isabella Sacred Heart Circle#237Highland. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia A. Ohren of Wood River andGenevieve M. "Jenny" (Ralph) Reusing of Alhambra; a son, Richard A."Rick" (Kathie Cordell) Schleper of Marine; seven grandchildren,Leonard (Shawna) Ohren of Godfrey, Karen (Joel) LaFrance of St. Jacob,David (Monica) Reusing of Staunton, Laura (Don) Ellis of New Douglas,Barb. Dugan of Highland, Nathan Schleper of Marine and Celia Schleperof Highland, and two halfbrothers, Norbert Begeman of Glen Carbon andBurnell Kapp of Highland. She also was preceded in death by her parents and step-father EmileKapp. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, St. PaulEducation Foundation or to the family.
