Belleville News-Democrat, Sat 30 Oct 2004: George Joseph Kapp, 91, ofHighland, Ill., born June 29, 1913, in Highland, Ill., died Tuesday,Oct. 26, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Kapp was born south of Highland. He grew up on a farm there. As ayouth, he had worked for the Latzer and Kaeser families. He also didwork as a farmhand. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II(1942 to 1946) with duty in the European Theater. Mr. Kapp was anover-the road truck driver for many years, working mostly for CassenTrucking Co. and Alton Box Board Co., retiring in 1972. He also madereligious retreats to Kings House in Belleville, Ill., for more than50 years and about 20 years at the White House in St. Louis, Mo. Heenjoyed bowling for many years. Mr. Kapp had a boat that he kept inCarlyle Lake, where he fished, camped and water-skied. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Holy Name Society of theChurch, Knights of Columbus Council 1580, Highland VFW Post 5694,Highland Lee Iten Post 439, American Legion, Highland, Ill., Teamstersand Chauffeurs Local 525, Alton, Ill., Last Man Group of the AmericanLegion. Mr. Kapp was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Maggie, neeHolzinger, Kapp; a brother, Edwin Kapp; and two sisters, Frances E.Mersinger and Margaret J. Werner. Surviving are four brothers, John (Elvera) Kapp, Edgar (Laura) Kapp,Nelson H. (Marilyn) Kapp and Clarence (Ruth) Kapp, all of Highland,Ill.; three sisters, Bernice M. Hollenkamp of Aviston, Ill., Lorene M.Hollenkamp of O'Fallon, Ill., and Mary Ann (Bernie) Brown of St.Louis, Mo.; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Memorials may be made in the form of Masses, the St. Paul EducationFund or to St. Paul Catholic Church. Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004,and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Spengel-BoulangerFuneral Home, Highland, Ill. Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004,at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, Ill., with the Rev. David L.Peters officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery,Highland, Ill.
