The HistoriaWelforum names (in order) "Heinricum et Guelfonem et filiamRichgardam" as the children of "Roudolfus" & his wife[1021]. TheAnnalista Saxo names "Welphum comitem" as son of Rudolf (brother ofEticho/Welf and Konrad, although this appears difficult to sustainchronologically)[1022]. Graf von Altdorf. Graf im Nori- und Inntal."Heinricus…Romanorum imperator augustus" renewed the privileges ofKloster Fulda by undated charter, placed in the compilation with othercharters dated 1020, witnessed by "Godifridi ducis, Berinhardi ducis,Thiederici ducis, Welphonis comitis, Cunonis comitis, Kunrati comitis,Ottonis comitis, Adilbrahtis comitis, Bobonis comitis, Fridericicomitis, Bezilini comitis, Ezonis comitis palatini"[1023], the orderof witnesses presumably giving some idea of the relative importance ofthese named nobles at the court of Emperor Heinrich II at the time. Acodex of Kloster Weingarten records that "dux Welfo…cum uxore suaIrmindrude…de Glizberc" transferred Kloster Altorf "supermontem"[1024]. His county around the Brenner pass was confiscated byEmperor Konrad II as a punishment for Welf having supported Ernst Dukeof Swabia in his rebellion in 1030[1025]. He built the castle ofRavensburg on his Swabian lands which became the family's chiefresidence[1026]. TheGenealogia Welforum names "Salice --- de Glizperch Imizam nomine,Heinrici Noricorum ducis sororem et Friderici ducis Lotharingorum etAlberonis Metensis episcopi" as wife of Welf, specifying that she wasburied at Altenmünster and that her dowry was "villam Moringen etElisinam curtem in Longobardia"[1029]. Jordan suggests that the landin Lombardy was probably near Este[1030], which could explain theirdaughter's marriage as her husband may have been a neighbouringlandowner. After the death of her son, she contested his will underwhich he bequeathed all his property to the convent of Weingarten, andsummoned her grandson from Italy to assume the inheritance in Swabiaand Bavaria. The nuns of Weingarten were resettled in Altomünster inBavaria, relocating the monks to Weingarten as part of the settlementof the dispute[1031]. A codex of Kloster Weingarten records that "duxWelfo…cum uxore sua Irmindrude…de Glizberc" transferred Kloster Altorf"super montem"[1032]. Herimannus names "Irmengarda, Welf comitisvidua" when recording the transfer to her of Altdorf by themonks[1033]. The necrology of Weingarten records the death "XII KalSep" of "Irmindruot com que et Imiza mater Welfonis etChuonize"[1034]. Welf [II] & his wife had [three] children: a) WELF [III] (-Burg Bodman 13 Nov 1055). The HistoriaWelforum names "filiam Chunizam…et filium…Guelfum" as the children of"Guelfo…Roudolfi filius", specifying that Welf acquired "ducatumCarinthiorum et marchiam Veronensem"[1035]. Herimannus names "Welfcomitem, Suevigenam, Welf dudum comitis filium" when recording hisinstallation as Duke of Carinthia in 1047[1036]. He was installed as WELF I Duke of Carinthia andMarchese di Verona by Heinrich III King of Germany in 1047. Heconspired with Konrad de Luxembourg Duke of Bavaria to depose EmperorHeinrich III, but the plot was discovered and Welf was deposed as Dukeof Carinthia[1038]. Under his will, he left all his property to theconvent at Weingarten, intending to be buried there. His mothercontested the testament on the grounds that she, as lawful heir, hadnot consented to it[1039]. The necrology of Fulda records the deathin 1055 of "Welf dux"[1040]. The necrology of Weingarten records thedeath "Id Nov" of "Welfo dux Carinthie hic sepultus"[1041]. b) KUNIGUNDE ([1020]-31 Mar before 1055, bur VangadizzaMonastery).
