Biography by Professor Joseph M. Kellogg Moses Teter was born about 1790. He first appears on the Personal taxlists of Pendleton County in 1812 and continues for some yearsafterward. On the Census of 1820 he appears with himself and wife of26 to 45 years, and 3 sons all under 10 years. In 1830 he alsoappears with himself and wife of age 30 to 40 (which would seem toplace his birth as after 1790), and 5 sons and 1 daughter all under 15years. Moses Teter married (1), December 4, 1813, Sarah Pharis, daughter ofJohnson Pharis, who seems to have died a few years later, and hemarried (2), Oct. 9, 1817, Elizabeth Hedrick. (Marriage book ofPendleton County) In that deed from the heirs of Johnson Phares toJoel Teter, the "heirs of Sarah Teter ded., who was wife of MosesTeter" are mentioned. (Pendleton Deed book 11, page 11). On September 16, 1830, Moses Teter and Elizabeth his wife deeded toSamuel Teter for $600, a 76 acre tract on the east side of the NorthFork, which had been a part of the land belonging to Philip Teter, their father. (same, Book 10, page 217) Signature from this (original deed). [omitted] Elizabeth Hedrick Teter was still living in 1856, as shown by Censusof 1850 and will of her son Philip. Moses Teter died sometime before 1841, when his brother Samuel Tetermade his will, since in that will Moses is mentioned as being dead.(Pendleton County Will book #4, page 280).
