1. Obituary Christena Isabella McLeland was born near Upton, Van Buren county,Iowa, Oct. 1, 1852, and died at her home in Milton, Iowa, at fiveo'clock Christmas morning, December 25, 1923 at the age of seventy-oneyears, two months and twenty-four days. She was a daughter of Adam and Mary A. Teter and was united inmarriage to William E. McLeland, Oct. 26, 1872. To this union wereborn eight children, seven sons and one daughter. She was bereft ofher husband, who passed away Feb. [13th or 18th], 1918, and a fewmonths after the death of the husband her son Leon was called. With the exception of a short time that she lived in Unionville,Missouri, her life has been spent in Van Buren County and her home hasbeen in Milton since 1906. Early in life she was converted and united with the MethodistEpiscopal church and continued a member of the same until her death. The surviving children are Harvey L., George, Frank, Harry and BlancheMadden all of Milton, Iowa; Clarence E. of Mt. Sterling, Iowa and Rayof Brule, Nebr. There are also four brothers and one sister, Will,George and Hugh of Cantril, Ed of Milton and Addie Silvers of Cantril. These, with a large company of other relatives and friends remain tomourn her loss. The funeral was held from the M. E. church in Milton on FridayDecember 28, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. F. Gilbert, after whichthe remains wre laid to rest in the Milton Sunnside [sic] cemetery.
