Biography by Professor Joseph M. Kellogg Reuben Teter was born about 1785. He appears on the Personal Taxlists in Pendleton County first in 1807 and continues to appear forsome years. In the Census of 1810 in Pendleton County he appears withhimself and wife and 1 son and 2 daughters all under 10 years. Later,in 1820, he appears now with 8 children. Then he evidently removed toRandolph County, where he appears on the tax lists and in the Censusof 1830 with himself and wife and 10 children. He evidently had alarge family. Reuben Teter married Feb. 3, 1807, Christena Pharis, a daughter ofJohnson Phares, as is shown by a deed from the heirs of JohnsonPhares, (including Reuben Teter and wife Christina of Randolph County)to Joel Teter. Recorded August 7, 1833. (Pendleton County Deed book#11, page 11). On December 15, 1827, Reuben Teter and wife Christena deeded to SamuelTeter, for $700, a tract of 137 acres on the east side of the NorthFork, a little above the head of the Deep spring, "a part of hisfather's patent lands" (Pendleton Deed book 9, page 399). Signature from this (original) deed. [omitted] On February 27, 1832, articles of agreement were signed, betweenReuben Teters "heir of Johnson Phares deceased" and Jonathan S.Nelson. Teter sells him his part in a tract known as "the Walnut Log"etc. (same, Book 15, page 289). Signature from this (original) agreement. There is one male 10 years of age or less, one white maleaged 16 to 25 years, two white females 10 years of age or less, andone white female aged 16 to 25 years. There are no slaves nor otherpersons in the household. Columns are headed as follows: 1. Free white males 0-9 years of age 2. Free white males 10 -15 years of age 3. Free white males 16 -25 years of age including heads of families 4. Free white males 26 -44 years of age including heads of families 5.
