1. Obituary Published in the Enid News, January 17, 2007 ARTHUR LOUIS SCHROEDER Arthur Louis Art Schroeder died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at St.Vincent General Hospital in Leadville, CO. Art was 66 years old. He was born in Nowata, OK June 13, 1940. His parents were the lateCarl and Elsie (Engelken) Schroeder. Art grew up in Enid, OK. After high school, Art attended PhillipsUniversity in Enid for two years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army.After receiving an honorable discharge, Art moved to Colorado where heworked at the Climax Molybedenum Mine for three years. He then becamean independent trucker for another three years before building theHigh Country Restaurant. He opened the High Country on Feb. 4, 1975.Art successfully ran the restaurant for 30 years, four months, and 10days. Art had a way of making people feel at home. Numerous employeessay he was the best boss they ever had. In addition to his fantasticset of employees, Art also cherished his relationships with manyvalued customers. Art was an avid hunter, earning him the nickname Crack-shotSchroeder. Art loved bow hunting and was a long-time member of theArchery Club. Arts other hobbies included fishing, camping, four-wheeling andhummingbird watching. But, above all, Art had a very high work ethicand spent most of his time working, although he was never too busy tolisten to a good story or tell a silly joke. He often laughed theloudest at his own jokes. Art will always be remembered for hisfriendly manner, kindness, positive outlook on life and his specialskills with duct tape and bailing wire. Art was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a very close-knit family including his wife, Teri ofLeadville; daughter, Kristi Wingenbach of Carbon-dale; two sisters,Lorene and Vic Peckman of Denver, CO, and Vera Murphey of Haysville,KS; four brothers, Edward and Nancy Schroeder and Richard and PattySchroeder, both of Wichita, KS, Edgar and Bea Schroeder of Tulsa, OK,and Dave and Karen Schroeder of Castle Rock, CO; and numerous niecesand nephews. Also, a cherished group of friends of over 50 years. A memorial reception was held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15 at theHigh Country Restaurant in Leadville.
