Notizen zu dieser Person

Marie's birth date and death date come from the Social Security Death Index as well as the memorial card distributed at her wake. According to an article written shortly after her death, Marie was the youngest of five children of Irish immigrant parents from Galway. Further research confirms this; in fact, she was also the only girl and had four older brothers. Throughout her life, but especially after the company closed in 1975, Marie carefully tended the Potthast Brothers records, which included the company sales books and covered the years 1900 to 1975. She became an expert in Potthast furniture and knew many of the firm's customers. She helped them resell their furniture as they aged and moved to smaller quarters. She also performed appraisals for insurance and inheritance taxes. If someone called about a piece, Marie Potthast would sit for hours scouring the sales books until she found the requested information. Marie's obituary appeared in The Baltimore Sun, April 17, 2002: "Potthast, Marie C. On April 16, 2002, Marie (nee Corcoran), beloved wife of the late Theodore J. Potthast, Sr., beloved mother of Theodore J. Potthast, Jr., and the late John Anthony Potthast, mother-in-law of Constance Fava Potthast, grandmother of Catherine A. Potthast, John A. Potthast and his wife Ann, Mark I. Potthast and his wife Lisa, Mia Potthast Walsh and her husband Brian, great-grandmother of Andrew, Benjamin, Samantha, Katie, Emma and Sara Marie. "Friends may call at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home Inc., 6500 York Road (at Overbrook), on Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 3-5 and 7-9 PM. A Vigil Service will be held Thursday 3 PM. A funeral mass will be offered Friday 10 AM at St. Pius X Church. Interment New Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Home for Retired School Sisters of Notre Dame, Villa Assumpta, 6401 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD. 21212."
