♂ Karl Gustav POTTHAST
Notizen zu dieser Person
Karl's birth and christening dates were located in the LDS Family Search database. According to Edgar Dohmann, his date of death was also noted in the records of St. Mary's Church in Borgholz. Curiously, the LDS Archives list Karl as "Carl" even though the letter "C" was not commonly used in German spellings. I have used the more common German spelling of "Karl." One of many "Potthast Brothers Inc." documents refers to a fifth brother who remained in Germany and continued to work as a cabinetmaker. Karl was that brother. But he stayed in contact with his brothers in America and travelled from Borgholz to Baltimore on at least one occasion: in May/June 1930 to attend the wedding of his nephew Ted Potthast to Marie Corcoran. Four of the ten children of Karl and Theresa -- Franz, Johann, Fritz and Karl -- died in their early childhood ... three from abdominal flu and one (Karl) from measels.
