Peabody Essex Museum, Salem Mass., Salem Witchcraft Papers, #22) Notesfor ANN CARR:

Ann was the youngest daugerter of George and Elizabeth Carr of Salisbury.

Mrs. Thomas Putnam took a prominent part in witchcraft delusionof1692.Shewas the sister of Mary Carr, wife of Mr. James Bayley, whoseministryat thevillage was the cause of so much dissension andwhichindirectlyadded tothe bitterness of the witchcraft persecutions.

By nature, Mrs. Putnam was a woman of ahighsensitivetemperament, apparently easily wrought upon and deceived.TheCarrs seemall to havebeen rather weak in that respect, although ofgoodsocialposition.

Afterwards, at the trails of the accused persons, Mrs.Putnamwasoftenseized with strange attacks of imagination, evidentlyproducedbytheover-excitement and consequent strain on her brain. Atthesetimesshewas a prominent witness, but after this was over andRev.Parriswasattempting to retain his hold on the parish and todickerwiththeinhabitants over terms of settlement, she seems to haverefusedtohimher aid of encouragement.

She probably was a firm believer in the whole matter there seemstobebutlittle doubt. The strain was to much for Sergeant Putnamanddiedshortlyafters the trails; she followed him to the grave afewweekslater.

With the exception of Deliverance, all of the 'named' childrenwerealivein1715. (See Ann Putnam's will.)
