Mechanical Engineer - Honeywell Army serial number 43 015 362, grade Pfc. Two months Pvt FieldArtillery Basic Training (521) and three months Pfc Chauffeur (345).Place of separation - Fort Bragg North Carolina. Was assigned to the13th Quartermaster Car Company, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Drove ajeep providing transportation for headquarters personnel. Inspectedvehicle weekly, performed preventative maintenance and made emergencyrepairs. Filled out standard vehicle report forms on trips made.Honorable discharge -March 22, 1947, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. March 13, 2001 By Lois Marie WAGNER Follmer, Daughter Dad passed away last night after approx. 11-12 years of suffering fromParkinsons' Disease. He was admitted to Brandywine hospital inFebruary and underwent emergency surgery. They found his gallbladderenlarged and full of stones. His intestines were blocked again andthey needed to remove a section and put in a colostemy bag. He alsohad peritinitis and aspiration pneumonia. He nearly died that day.Five weeks later, his abdomen was enlarged requiring another surgery.They found he was full of bile possibly from a nicked liver from thefirst surgery. He went into septic shock the next day. Dad remained inintensive care this entire time. His living will stated he did notwish to have heroic measures taken on him. He passed away alone in thehospital. Mom had just been there a few hours before and had just leftfor the evening. She was by his side everday. Nobody knew when he wasgoing to die. He passed away sometime between 10 pm and 12 am on thenight of March 12, 2001. Mom had left right before 10 PM. The nursechecked him at midnight and he was gone. His body was to betransferred today by the Veterans to be cremated. They have been verygood to mom and will help her with all the arrangements. They willgive mom the ashes and a folded flag for dad's service time. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 15, 2001 at CornerstonePresbyterian Church in Skippack, Pennsylvania to celebrate dad's life.(The church mom and dad attended while still living in North Wales)Since it was the day before Easter, mom and I bought some Easterflowers to place around a nice photo of dad that we placed in frontof the church. We didn't buy any LILLIES! We used tulips, hyacinthsand a few mums. We ended the service with the song, "Our God is andAwesome God!" We waited till April since dad was cremated so thatthere was also time for out of state family to make plans. Mom alsowanted to wait until after Eileen Wagner gave birth to baby JuliaApril 7, 2001. I made an album for mom to keep of family photo andmemories that was at the memorial for others to look at. Brenda andall her family flew in, myself and most of the Friedman family. AuntBarb and Uncle Ed came all the way from France with Lisa and Lori. Itwas very touching. Uncle Jim Wagner actually came too, we haven't seenhim since Brendas' wedding in 1980.
