Bromschwig Senior associate pastorat Most Sacred Heart in Florissant Monsignor Arthur F. Bromschwig, senior associate pastor at Most SacredHeart Catholic Church in Florissant and former educator andadministrator, died Saturday (Jan. 13, 2007) of natural causes at theparish rectory. He was 82. He was born in St. Louis and graduated from the former Cathedral LatinSchool, before attending St. Louis Preparatory Seminary and, later,Kenrick Seminary, where he was ordained by Cardinal Ritter in 1950. His first parish assignment was as assistant pastor at the OldCathedral in St. Louis - and later the St. Louis Cathedral Basilica inthe Central West End. In 1966 he became pastor of Most Holy Trinity in St. Louis. He alsoserved as pastor at St. Francis de Sales (1970 to 1978); St. John'sMercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur (1978 to 1989); St. Peter in St.Charles (1990 to 2000). He was chaplain at the Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis from2000-2002. Monsignor Bromschwig joined Most Sacred Heart in Florissant as seniorassociate pastor. He served there until the time of his death. "Father Art lived a generous life of service to the Church of St.Louis," said the Rev. Edward Stanger, pastor of Sacred Heart. "Heserved for 56 years. I was extremely fortunate to have had theprivilege of sharing priestly ministry with him during his final yearsof service. He instructed us, guided us, steadied us and humored us." In 2003, he was elevated to monsignor. In addition to his parish assignments, in the 1950s, MonsignorBromschwig taught at De Andreis and Rosati Kain high schools, both inSt. Louis. From 1956-1961 he served as an administrator at DuchesneHigh School, and from 1961-1978 at St. Dominic High School, both inSt. Charles County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Most Sacred Heart CatholicChurch, 751 North Jefferson Avenue in Florissant. A funeral Mass willbe at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be at St. PeterCemetery. Among the survivors are his brother, Henry Bromschwig of Lakeland,Fla., and a number of nieces and nephews.
